In this week’s blog from Genesis 12:2-3, God (Jehovah) is telling Abram (later named Abraham) that “…and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” KJV.
What does God mean for us to be “great” (“…and make thy name great…”)?
The word “great” in this passage, (“…and make thy name great…”), comes from the Hebrew word gadal which means, advance, boast, bring up, exceed, excellent, grow (up), increase, lift up, magnify, be much set by, nourish (up), pass, promote, proudly [spoken], and tower.
We, of the God of Israel, are blessed and share “in the rich nourishment of God’s special olive tree” (see Romans 11:17 NLT). We are a great people by God’s grace (Romans 11 NLT). By His grace, God helps us to advance, to exceed, to grow, to increase, to tower, thus to be great!
Praise be to God!
God Bless You All!
