For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. Matthew 12:8 KJV
Read Matthew 12:1-8
In this scripture verse Jesus said that He is Lord of the sabbath day (Matthew 12:8 KJV).
Jesus’ disciples picked grain to eat on the sabbath day. They did not harvest the grain and sell it for a profit on the sabbath day which the Pharisees overlooked. Harvesting grain for a profit on the sabbath day was against the law, however, under Jesus’ covenant we can believe we can eat as well as harvest on the sabbath day by Jesus’ example.
The sabbath is for a day of worship, to be one with God, not as a day of just discharging a divine service as set by the law. We are to reverence Christ not just by rituals, but also from our hearts to the heart of Jesus. Jesus also healed often on the sabbath day which was a miracle work in itself for the glory of God.
The sabbath day is not just a one day of worship, but the sabbath is a day of holy relationship with God in that everyday should be a holy relationship with God, not a once a week practice of self-righteousness like that of the Pharisees.
The sabbath is not just a day of rest to observe just rituals, but the sabbath is a day to praise God and to contemplate on the goodness of God, a sabbath day or days of miracle works for our body, mind, and spirit as we relate or connect with the redemptive power of Jesus’ salvation for us from the bondage of sin.
The sabbath is holy in that we are one with Christ everyday.
