“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (KJV).
When we are in a season of being slothful, want to be let alone, or feel forsaken which are some of the definitions of the word “still” (raphah) in this scripture, there is an additional definition of “still” (raphah) which means cause to heal, physician, repair, and make whole.
Any hurt, pain, or season of despair and discouragement will bring us to a time of just being still. It is in our stillness that God will be with us and heal us.
I can remember sitting in a waiting area for my car repair when I heard a report of another man being killed by someone on the TV. I was first distressed by the report, but I was sitting with a group of women, and we all became still. In this stillness, God ministered to us — healing our distress from that report because those reports have an effect on us — so we could go on with our day as the repairs on our cars were finished one by one.
God is exalted in this stillness by His power to heal in that He is lifted up as He puts to rest our sorrow. We are also lifted up in our spirits, our outward demeanor, and inner strength to go forward.
Isn’t God wonderful?
God Bless You All!
