Cast Thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Ecclesiastes 11:1
As we know all things come from God. As such our things or our “bread” or our manna (1) given to us by God is to be cast (or to “send or direct (something) in the direction of someone or something”) (2) “upon the waters” (v. 1) or to the “living water” (Genesis 21:9; 26:19; John 7:38 KJV) (1), i.e. to Christ to be for the benefit of others (Ecclesiastes 11:2 KJV) like as to the purpose of our tithes and offerings.
This casting will cause us to “find it” (v. 1), to befall upon us (3), to cause (it) to come (3), the fruits of our generosity, the results of our giving “after many days” (v. 1).
So is the purpose of our giving to God, to Him for others, and not just for us to accumulate things for ourselves in all that we gain from God (read all of Ecclesiastes 11). After all God says, “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills” (Psalms 50:10 KJV).
