1 I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. 2 As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters. 3 As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. Song of Solomon 2:1-3a KJV.
As Christ is to the church, and to each one of us, Jesus is the lily or the kingdom on earth and in heaven which lies within us (Luke 17:20-21 KJV). Jesus is the lily of the valleys (that is valleys with an “s”). In our valleys or our profound (1) places of bewilderment, confusion, disorientation, and places that are perplexing and puzzling (2) our “rose of Sharon” our “lily of the valleys” is with us (v. 1).
Jesus is amongst the thorny places of our pain and suffering providing, healing, and loving us through our valleys as we approach and climb our mountains of destiny.
Jesus nourishes us as we are amongst others in the world (v. 3). It takes nourishment and His presence with us as we are in the valleys.
Thank you God for the “rose of Sharon” with us!
