Do not, therefore, fling away your [fearless] confidence, for it has a glorious and great reward. 36 For you have need of patient endurance [to bear up under difficult circumstances without compromising], so that when you have carried out the will of God, you may receive and enjoy to the full what is promised. Hebrews 10:35-36 AMP (Amplified Bible)
In the verses in Hebrews 10:32-39, the writer first talks about the persecution of Christian believers “after being [spiritually] enlightened” (Hebrews 10:32-34 AMP). Satan wants believers to shun and lose our faith in the Triune God, thus the persecutions of Satan and the forces of evil against believers.
However, through the persecution of the believer we are told to not “fling away your [fearless] confidence, for it has a glorious and great reward” (Hebrews 10:35 AMP). This confidence is in our faith in the teachings and lifestyle of the Word especially in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Epistles as Christians. We are to have a fearless confidence where we hold fast to our Christian belief as our Christian belief is shaped through the result of our persecution. Our persecution, because of our Christian belief, establishes and shapes our character, patience, and hope for the better and for our good for “eternal salvation” (Romans 5:3-4 AMP). Having had our character, patience, and hope shaped and thus strengthen because of our persecution, this develops in us a fearless confidence and faith in the Triune God and thus in our Christian belief. As such we have before us a “glorious and great reward” (Hebrews 10:35 AMP), the walk we have with Jesus now and for all eternity.
We, in our fearless confidence, are not to “shrink back to destruction, but [we are] of those who believe [relying on God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Messiah] and by this confident faith preserve (support) the soul” (Hebrews 10:39 AMP, and my emphasis).
